by wantstoleave ini have been active on this board a week now and i think for the most part, my head is alot clearer now.
previously when i'd considered leaving the organisation, i had no other knowledge to back up my feelings.
i simply just wanted to leave and thought that come armageddon, i would die.

Prejudice in the Kingdom Hall.

the district conventions and circuit assemblys too.
i've noticed one particular section where there were just black people who made up about 20% of the dc and the rest were white.

Along with JWOODS comment: My experiences were in the mid atlantic area. We had problems with hair cuts. I kept my hair short, usually a flat top. I was counseled by two elders that a military haircut was unacceptable. I asked to see this in writing. They Quoted some crap about following popular or worldly fads, nothing in print. So I got a crew cut. Again, same two had discussed how I wore my hair in an elders meeting and felt it necessary to counsel me again. This time it was too short. If I keep these kind of haircuts, I will lose my priveleges. I am white, and named five other brothers who actually trim their hair with clippers, half the length of mine, who are all elders or servants. The elders said that that was different. I asked why? They didn't really have anything to say, so I said the obvious. BECAUSE THEY ARE BLACK (afro-american)? Is there one set of rules for blacks, another for whites? Why can they have their priveleges wearing their hair short, and I cant? They acted a little nervous and had nothing to say. Again I asked to see this in writing exactly how long a brothers hair should be, and the exemptions for other nationalities. Nothing. Then I asked how long I should wear my hair? One elder said"OH, I can't tell you how long your hair should be" I said that they have had two elders meetings about exactly that, and I have been counseled twice about it. They had nothing to say, so the next meeting they had nothing to worry about, I took clippers and cut off as much as I could, then shaved my head with a razor. I told one of the elders who had counseled me twice that there should not be anymore time wasted in the elder meetings about my hair anymore. They can actually be concerned with real congregational matters.
I know what they were doing. Some wanted me recommended for elder, but some said that I had a bad attitude. They were trying to see how many hoops they could get me to jump through to prove that I was worthy. I was a MS and have a good work ethic, so I did my assignments well, but I would not put up with any bull shit. By that time I knew it was all a sham and wanted out anyway, definitely didn't want to be appointed elder.

Toward the end I was bored, angry also from the information presented. I could not believe the BS and the spin the WTS would spew out and everyone would say what a good meeting we had today. What were they listening to??? When I was the sound servant, there was always "prep work" to be done, load next song on CD, untangle mic cords, organize and talk to mic handlers, 1 would first half of WT study, another would do second half, giving you 4 people to talk with, change one from 1st half to second, it could go on through the whole meeting and keep it interesting because you wouldn't hear anything form the platform. When I was the literature servant I would do the monthly count of literature during meetings, again no time to listen.
We had 2 congs meeting in one hall, so I hated when we had the late meetings, you would miss all NFL games for the entire season, except for Monday nights. On those afternoons I would get a headache and go out & sit in the car, of course listening to the Steeler games. On Sundays with the really good games scheduled, would make an excuse to HAVE to leave after the Public talk. Even at assemblies, people thought I was working because I was never in my seat, but I was in the car listening to Penn State on saturdays, and Steelers on sundays.
If I was sitting through the watchtower study, about paragraph 8 I would start writing places to go to eat in the margins or on top or bottom of magazine for after the meeting, and hand it to my then wife. She would write another place, and on it would go through the rest of the meeting.By the end of the meeting, we had no idea what the meeting was about, but we knew where we were going for lunch. Amen and out the door!

and, i can copy the po's signature pretty well - lol .
if it wasn't illegal i would make out $1.00 checks to the salvation army, catholic church, homeless shelter (then they would be giving to charity - oh my) .

If they can't be traced back to you, make a huge donation to the Red Cross. If it is over $250.00 they can write it off, maybe pretty handy the way countries are looking into their finances and slave labor lately.

Has anyone dealt with custody issues after leaving?

we were having a lot of issues in our marriage that i tried to talk about and he refused to see or even acknowledge.
me leaving was the final straw but to him i just up and left for "no reason".

My experience in my recent divorce was that all property of value was split 50/50 if it was aquired during the time you were married. If he wants the house, have it appraised and he will have to pay you half of the appraised value. The same with the car, any property.
They saying they have something on you, you yourself would be the best one to know what that might be. If you have no idea what it is, it is probabbly bull shit to intimidate you, and whatever they accuse you of, they will have to proove it. I wpoldn't worry there.
As far as custody, take pictures of your apartment, hang lots of mirrors on the walls if it might look a touch small. Mirrors make the rooms look bigger than they really are. Show that there is a bed for yourself and all of the children. Get testomony of any friends and neighbors who are willing to testify that you are not morally corrupt and a drunk since you staggered out into satan's big, bad world.
Use his religion against him, my cousin had this done to him and his wife and lost his step-son to his non JW father. Tell the court that the children are in danger from common accepted and safe medical treatments if hurt in an accident. Also being exposed to potental pedofiles in the organization.Bring as many newspaper articles you can find on these practices in the organization and have them entered as evidence, so the judge will have to read over all of it. I know someone on here that keeps close tabs on all of that info and I am sure we could get it to ya.
